Humanity+ vs Individualism+

H+ magazine has published Chris Benek's essay on the difference between a transhumanism that's really only looking out for individual advancement, versus a transhumanism that's truly working towards human advancement.

This is a big discussion in the transhumanist world at the moment, and it's something that religious and spiritual transhumanists have an important view into. Religions and spiritual traditions have spent thousands of years seeking to find the right balance between individual needs and society-level concerns.

Don’t you realize this is the last kingdom. The ten toes on Nebuchadnezzars statue. Part Iron part clay. Daniel 2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. What does mixing with the seed of men mean? Just as in the days of Noah. DNA manipulation. This is why God destroyed everything before the flood. His seed had not been defiled by fallen angel/animal DNA manipulation.  These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. So since the fallen angels successfully modified human/animal DNA. Human will successfully modify human/animal DNA. It has already been successful. Here the word says it will not cleave to one another. Other interpretations say mix well. What does that mean? The iron (metal components) will not mix well with clay (dust of the earth). Our body was made from the dust of the earth. The rock who is undeniably Jesus will destroy the ten toes. The ten toes are part of the beast system. Just as the ten horns on the beast our part of the beast. Do you not think how God made you is perfect. In fact he said it was very good. Why does mankind die now, sin. We had the glory of God on us and we sinned. When God’s shining glory left we saw we were naked. We died spiritually and physically. Christ died to make us born again in our spirit but this flesh, praise God will die, until the resurrection of our bodies. At that point we will live eternally with a glorified body again. I don’t know about you but don’t you get tired of your own sin and long for the redemption of your flesh with your glorified body so you  never ever sin again. I do. Repent of this. This theology will lead to take the mark of the beast and you will be in hell forever. Really read your bible and hate your sinful flesh. This is why your deceived because you love sin. But God loves you more than your sin. Don’t let the devil deceive you any longer. Do not live for pleasures of this life but live to please God.

Thanks for the comment Samantha! This is exactly what we’re saying: that narrow self-interest is really self-defeating, and that only by maximizing the potential of others can we be truly realized ourselves. We’re not opposed to self-interest in its truest form, we’re opposed to narrow and short-sighted selfishness. I agree that the really important work is in seeing the synthesis of apparent opposites — in seeing, for example, that empathy and progress are not opposed, but are connected.

You are mistaken to assume that these are opposites. Full rational self-interest leads to the realization eventually that I cannot fully maximize my own existence unless other sentient beings around me are as fully realized in their own potential as possible. The really important work is in bridging and finding synthesis across apparent opposites not exacerbating them.

The core of the right to transcend is the right of each individual to their own life and to live it as they see fit and best for themselves respecting others right to do likewise.
